Journal:

Perhaps the scariest thing for me about violence in our country is that it seems to be becoming routine.  The violent actions are becoming routine; the media’s coverage of the violence is becoming routine; and a quick return to our “everyday” lives is becoming routine.  In fact, extreme violence has become a part of our routine.

In a journal of at least one full page, respond to one of the prompts below:

  • I believe violence occurs in our world because…
  • My first response to violence is…Then I…
  • The kinds of violence that affect me most are…because…
  • Violence towards others triggers my memories of…
  • The reason I’m writing about this topic at this time is…
  • I believe the best way to reduce or stop violence is to…
  • I can heal the violence in my life by…

The successful journal response will move beyond a general and superficial response.  The successful journal response will provide insight into your emotional and/or intellectual response to violence of any kind.

The violence to which you refer does not have to be a mass shooting.  It can be violence or intimidation in any form.

Your one-page response will be checked tomorrow for a classwork grade.

By “one-page” I mean one full page in Pages with 1 1/2 space & 11 pt. font.
